Pepito & The Trash Cans

Bilingual Musical Storytelling

Amanda from Easley Elementary says, “Luke transports his audience to Pepito’s world in Bolivia and presents a heartwarming story and message that worth and value can be found in everyone and everything! I highly recommend this program. Your students will engage with Spanish vocabulary, STEAM content, wonderful music, and an amazing story!”

Description

Pepito & The Trash Cans is a bilingual musical story about a little boy in Bolivia who longs to play music, but scarcity and misfortune stand in the way of his dream. In the end, He and his siblings figure out how to make instruments with bottles, cans, and other repurposed materials.

Educational

This storytelling experience promotes socio-emotional learning, while teaching Spanish vocabulary as it is woven into the context of Pepito’s life in Bolivia.

Inspirational

The story as well as the music and songs have been crafted in a way that inspires creativity, resilience, care for the environment, and an appreciation for cultural diversity.

Unique

It’s not just a story, it’s musical, cultural, and poetic. Throughout the story, Luke plays over a dozen homemade instruments, including original songs and spoken word poetry.

Adaptable

Schools and libraries may want a more interactive experience adapted for different ages, whereas theaters and other venues will be entranced by the story and performance.

The 40-Minute Version focuses on Pepito’s struggle with scarcity and misfortune and his breakthrough with the idea of making his own instruments from trash. This version concludes with a powerful song reminding the audience of their beauty and self-worth.

The 60-Minute Version includes an additional demonstration of how Luke loops over a dozen homemade instruments.

The 90-Minute Version is on another level. The story takes the audience through a rollercoaster of emotions as Pepito pursues his dream, learning to overcome rejection, the letdown of momentary success, loneliness, and dissatisfaction. This version includes an additional 3 songs.
